Tips for Managing Your Toll-Free Numbers

CREATIVE USES OF TFN’S   YOUR UNIQUE ID
   REASSURANCE

1.  You can place a recording to notify a customer that the number has been disconnected or changed and provide the new number. The charge for this service is $12 per month.  You will get charged by the carrier for the calls.

2.  A toll-free number can point to any number your customer calls frequently; it doesn’t have to be his own number. Usage would be billed to your customer. When he is away from the office, using the toll-free number is cheaper and easier than using a calling card or third-party billing. The party at the called number will not be aware there is a toll-free number pointing to his local number.

3.  If your customer doesn’t want to provide toll-free service in all areas but wants potential customers to be able to reach him at their own expense, a custom recording on the toll-free can carry a message, such as “toll-free service is not available from the caller’s area, but the local number for _________ is ______.”  There will still be a usage charge for the call, but it will reduce long calls and repeat calls.  The charge for this service is $12 per month.

4.  Don’t forget students away from home or family members on the road. It’s cheaper than collect calls or calling cards.

The AU number we assigned you at the beginning of our relationship identifies you, only you. We use this identification for all actions we perform on your behalf. Your assigned rep would know from the AU number that Jane Smith is from ___ company. Unfortunately, our staff members do take time off occasionally, to be sick, or go on vacation, or other feeble excuses and another rep will be working on your orders.

So, please use your Uniquely You number on all correspondence with us, especially email. If you do not remember what your Uniquely You number is, please ask your rep.

FAREWELL

I’m retiring!

I’ve written the newsletter since 1991. This is one function I’ll really miss.

I’ve enjoyed hearing from you and working with you. Thanks for the memories –

Several people have asked for clarification on the rate changes announced last month. Of most concern was the $50 charge for NASC’s. A NASC is an emergency forced Resp Org change. We only NASC numbers under extraordinary circumstances and only with your express instruction. Your cost for regular Resp Org changes is the same as it has been since 1993.

PRESIDENTIAL ROVINGS

It won’t be on Air Force One, but ATL president Aelea Christofferson will be aloft.

She tries to meet as many of you as possible, grouping her visits in parts of the country. Later this month it will be in the New York City area and New Jersey.

The next trips will probably be Utah and  Northern California.

Let us know if you would like to have Aelea come and meet with your staff.
